‘Wandering Herd’ – a story of survival and love

Inspired by the book《太平吉象之旅》written by 葉蕙雅, ‘Wandering Herd’ was an extended reading activity organised by the School Library to promote values education through reading and explore key themes from the elephants’ journey through Xishuangbanna, China.

Building on what our primary students learned about the elephants’ search for food in Life Value Education lessons, they joined a lunchtime reading activity organised by the library. Through reading a series of short articles in Chinese and English, students deepened their understanding of elephants’ habits and characteristics, the effects of global warming on animal habitats, and the ways in which people can help.

As students read, they also learned that living things are closely connected, and that thoughtful actions can help protect both wildlife and the environment—so that our Earth remains a place where all life can thrive.

Reading experiences like these sparks hope and inspires our students to care even more for animals and the natural world around them.
