St. Margaret's Co-educational English Secondary and Primary School
To celebrate the joy of reading and the power of books, the Reading Across Curriculum Team organised various activities from 23 to 26 April 2024 for everyone in the school. As highlighted in our yearly theme, students and teachers have come together to participate in "A Journey of Literary Wonders” and shared their love of literature.
During the Weekly Assembly, all students enjoyed the Reading Marathon video, a production created in six different languages by over 70 presenters, including teachers, students as well as parents. The book chosen to read together with the whole school this year was the novel, “Wonder”, by an American author, R.J. Palacio.
P.1 to P.4 students dressed up as their favourite book characters and went up to the stage to share about the wonderful stories in their costumes. The creativity and effort that put into the costume was not only impressive but inspirational to everyone in the school.
There were also book-themed booths games at the Reading Fun Fair created by S.1 and S.2 students. Students from all levels were invited to play and enjoy the games created by book lovers. We were especially thankful to have our Library Parent Volunteers participate at the fair with us and Ocean Publishers coming to our school for the book sale.
In the meantime, both the primary and secondary students spent some enjoyable moments playing the Book Charades game and making the creative bookmarks. Throughout the week, there were also in-class activities related to the theme book organised by the Chinese department.
The Author Visit in the week was another hit for the primary students. During Reading Time and the library visit period, our alumna, Ms. Gillian Del Mundo read aloud and shared about her book, The Colors of Music. Students were fascinated by the touching story and showed enthusiasm about how a book is created and published.
World Book Day is an incredible celebration of creativity and learning, and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to share it with our students. We hope that this special day will inspire our students to continue reading widely and deeply, and to develop a lifelong love of books.
